inventory eve

so today was a very tiring day at work, comet system went belly up along with the fish so i spent most of my shift fixing that. then i had to redo the reptile habitats because we are getting in a crested gecko and 3 russian tortoises tomorrow. so all day we were running around doing craziness while our bosses were like "can you get on register?" "can you do this thing not at all relevant to your job as a pet care assistant" yeah...
so tonight i have to stay up as late as possible, ideally until about 3, which will be hard since i had to wake up at 6 am this morning. see, i'm helping out with our inventory tomorrow night, which means i'll be at work from 8pm until 5 am, this is gonna be interesting. i think the last time i stayed up until 5 am was my freshman year of college, and its a lot easier to do with dancing and drinking going on than with ppl yelling "sku check" and whatnot.
The rats seem to be settling in nicely, apparently they were exploring their cage a bit and discovered their water bottle. Demon seems content to just stare at them and hasn't really shown much active interest which is a plus.

Welcome to our home Pox and Mary!!!

The sunshine is bright, the space is immense, the food is fabulous, but there is a large scary black thing moving around...this is the new world for Pox and Mary, 2 fancy rats which we got from my store. They are still pretty young (i think like...6 weeks? maybe 8 weeks, something like that) and their new home is a big change from where they just came from. They've been here for about 30 minutes now and are still adjusting to their new life. Demon (the cat) has been sitting on Joe's desk watching them through the cage, but doesn't seem overly interested in the little critters. They've been hiding in their food bowl, but have slowly started to move about and have a little grooming session.
The cuties are sisters, although you wouldn't know it since they are different colors (Pox is tan and white while Mary is black and white). So far Pox seems to be a little braver than Mary. While Pox was running up the ramps and exploring the various levels of their new home, Mary was hiding on top of her food bowl (hey, might as well protect the good stuff from the scary new world right?)
I must admit, had you told me last year that I would be having pet rats in the house, I would have never believed it, but I've been doing my research and found they are pretty cool. Apparently you can train them to come when called, to do tricks, to use a litter box, and more. Their cleanliness is that compared to a cat, and makes dogs look like horribly messy creatures, as apparently rats are also obsessive about cleaning themselves. This will prove to be a lot of fun, as long as we can keep harmony in our rat/cat household.
